Alternative Spring Break Destinations You Will Never Forget!
Spring break is just around the corner and if waiting in long lines at Disney World, staying at an all-inclusive resort with “meh” food and cheesy family activities, or sleeping in an overpriced hotel room next to raging college students isn’t your idea of a relaxing vacation, you’re in luck.
Here is my list of the “Top 6 Alternative Spring Break Destinations” and from the serene beaches of Florida’s “Forgotten Coast”, Cape San Blas, (pet-friendly rental homes perfect for big families and large groups abound) to hiking and horseback riding in the heart of the Smoky Mountains (cabins with panoramic views included)… there’s a destination for everyone! These are my Top Alternative Spring Break Destinations for 2018!
Tybee Island, GA: There are so many great beaches in the South… but what makes Tybee Island different is the pace. It’s a true small southern beach town with a population of less than 3,000 (including dogs)! If you’re tired of spending your precious week of vacation waiting 30 minutes for a beer, biking through traffic and fighting for an inch of sand to stake your claim for chair space – then try Tybee. Just walk outside your cottage and put your toes in the sand. One of Coastal Living’s 2015 “Happiest Coastal Towns” in the United States is brimming with activities: rent bikes, kayaks, and SUP boards, and venture out on a guided fishing excursion or dolphin tour, learn about the area with a beach ecology tour or enjoy a sunset cruise. Known as “Savannah’s Beach”, Tybee Island is ideal for families, big groups, and everything in between.
Hot Springs, VA: Set in the heart of Virginia’s Allegheny Mountains, Hot Springs, VA offers everything from wooded seclusion to stunning panoramas. Surrounded by thousands of acres of public land, you can hike the mountainous terrain, explore the forest on horseback, raft down the river, or play a round of golf at the Omni Homestead.
With the scenic views of the Blue Ridge Mountains, you will have the ultimate backdrop to capture moments you’ll never forget with views that can’t be beaten.
Asheville, NC is also another alternative spring break destination. Click here to learn more about Asheville.
Cape San Blas, FL: Set apart by its white sugary sands, and some of the most dog-friendly beaches in the nation, Cape San Blas is a blissful escape with unspoiled coastlines and plenty of diverse marine life. Part of the Gulf County peninsula, this true coastal oasis brings to life a rich history in sea exploration and discovery, the spirit of which lives in the endless opportunity to experience the tall sand dunes, gentle blue-green waters, and abundant wildlife that permeate this secluded beach town.
